In the last couple of days, information of a meeting between Donald Trump Jr and a Russian lawyer claiming to represent the Russian government has come to light. Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya said in emails that she may be able to get damaging information about Hillary Clinton during the US election campaign of 2016. Don Jr has since released these emails in an apparent attempt to appear as ‘transparent’. President Donald Trump has praised his son in releasing these emails in which his son stated “I love it,” when replying to what he had been told was a Russian government effort to help Donald Trump Snr to win the White House.
Donald Trump Jr’s defence to these claims:
“In retrospect I probably would have done things a little differently. Again, this is before the Russia mania. This is before they were building it up in the press. For me, this was opposition research. They had something, you know, maybe concrete evidence to all the stories I’d been hearing about.”
It’s interesting that he refers to colluding with the Russian government as opposition research. Russia have probably been the USA’s biggest global opponent since the end of World War II. In the Cuban missile crisis of 1962, John F. Kennedy went through back channels to seek a peaceful resolution with then Russian President, Nikita Khrushchev. To some figures within the American military establishment this was considered a betrayal. They saw his efforts to reach peace rather than nuclear war as collusion with the enemy. The irony of the current political situation is stark in contrast. On one hand we have the son of a presidential candidate stating “I love it,” when confronted with a Russian governmental effort to help his fathers path to the presidency. On the other, two opposing presidents putting aside global differences to avert nuclear war.
Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks down Don Jr’s blatant ethical disregard better than anyone in this TYT clip:

Let’s not forget, it was a matter of months before Russian interference in the election came to the forefront of the political narrative. These emails and subsequent interviews may not be concrete evidence of collusion. However, they are clearly evidence of a willingness to collude to aid his fathers presidential election no matter the cost.
It is also important to realise that if this lawyer was in fact working on behalf of the Russian government, it surely would have been prudent for all involved in these meetings to not disclose the truth of what was discussed. Furthermore, if there was any official Russian government involvement, they definitely would have ensured any future communications would not be traceable.
An interview on the Trump friendly Fox News in defence of his position is hardly an inquest into the truth of his actions. I wonder if Sean Hannity would have let a representative of a Democratic candidate off the hook so easily?
Donald Trump Jr interviewed by Sean Hannity on Fox News
Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed allegations of collusion saying; “It’s amazing that serious people are making a mountain out of a molehill.” This would be a fair statement if the former National Security Adviser, General Michael Flynn, was not currently being investigated regarding claims he discussed government matters with the Russian ambassador prior to President Trumps election. Attorney General Jeff Sessions also recused himself from the Justice Department’s investigation into the matter after he misled the Senate over his own meetings with the Russians. Senior Advisor to the President Jared Kushner has also been implicated. He met with the Russians two times previously to accompanying Don Jr to this latest meeting.
How much more evidence will it take before the entire media and political establishment admit that this presidential election was the target of a campaign of corruption? Corruption designed to ensure Donald Trump not Hilary Clinton would be the next President of the United States. As previously stated, this information is not evidence of collusion. It is evidence of the willingness to collude and use underhand means to achieve political power.
